Lunchies

These originally started off with the intention of doing a series of 20min speedpaintings during my lunch break (after seeing Bradley Wright's gorgeous speedies). But I got a teensy bit carried away on a few, so let's just say they're 25 min speedies. :p

Hoping to do some more (and improve) soon!

Environment Thumbs

Trying to plan out the next environment piece I'd like to move onto. Heck, maybe I'll just do all of them.

Trip

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Here's another quick update. It started off as a speedy I did at work, but I took it home and gave it a bit more love. Slightly inspired by Uncharted 3 (I haven't gotten to the desert level, yet, but I've seen it a bunch of times in the trailers).

Welcome

Here’s a speedy I started during my lunch break and finished at home. I’d say it took about 3 hours. Maybe a bit more. It always feels great being able to start and finish an image within a day!

Looking For Trouble 2

I went back and re-tooled the image a bit more. It’s a bit cleaner and more colorful. *shrug*

Destination 1

Been noodling at this over the past few weekends. I’m kind of tired of it, but I learned a few new things from it! I just wish I gave the guy a more dynamic pose. Next time.

“the Road” Screencap Study

Another study from another beautiful film. There were a bunch of parts from “The Road” that I wanted to try to reproduce, but I really liked the mood and the lighting of this one. It was a bit tricky trying to capture the complexity and density of all the set dressing, so I tried simplifying some areas. Once again, the composition and the colors are off. I could have spent some more time tweaking it, but I wanted to get some sleep Smile with tongue out

Slumbering Isle of Vastyr

A late night speedy. It started off as the result of an hour-long demo for a friend, but I felt like it had some potential so I took it a bit further. :p

Internal Combustion

A speedy I've been working on during my free time. Hoping to get some more done soon.

Intense

Just wanted to try to sneak in a speed painting before my weekend came to a close. I didn't really get to do what I was originally going for, but I had fun tinkering with this.

Fly By + Site Renovated

Hello,  all.

So first off, I wanted to let those of you who haven't been to my main site in the past week know that I've recently changed the look and feel of the site. I was mainly inspired by my buddy, Kevin Dalton's new fancy site. Plus I was looking to get a non-Flash site up soon, seeing as how not many cell phones can access Flash-based sites, yet. So I hope you'll all take a moment to check it out when you get the chance!

And here's a new speedpainting-ish piece I just wrapped up. I had quite a bit of fun with this one. I think I'll be moving onto a character design + illustration combo next. Till next time..poop!

Take Cover +

So for those who don't already know, I'm currently fulfilling a contract position at Activision's new studio, Sledgehammer Games. The studio is mostly made up of the core team that made last year's Dead Space (360, PS3, PC). It's been a really fun time so far. Everyone seems extremely talented and knowledgeable there. :]

I've also spent the past few weeks working on some stuff for Fantasy Flight Games. And finally, I've volunteered to create an original piece for the Beautiful/Grim art group/show.

As you all can see, I've been pretty tied down. But with the holidays right around the corner, I'm hoping I'll be able to spend some time working on some new ideas I've been thinking about.

Until then, here's a new one from me. I really took my time with this piece. I've been on and off it for a month, I think. I know I could have taken it a lot further, but I'm ready to move on.

Tilt

Kind of a long speedy. I wanted to try using softer lights in this one and also play with the composition a bit. This wouldn't work too well as a typical illustration, compositionally-speaking, but I kind of like what I achieved. I think I accidentally channeled a bit of Tom Scholes into this one. DAMMIT, I hate that guy! :p
