cliffclouds + planet
i think you should all be expecting more art from me soon. going to begin production on some personal work in preparation for spectrum 16 and personal projects just in general. i've got 3 or 4 stories floating in my head and excited to begin work on all of them! hopefully i'll be able to have an illustration prepared for all of them by the end of the year :] (these images have nothing to do with any of the stories..well..the second one might.)

Graaa
I'm still working on balancing out my free time, freelance, and work obligations. Work completely outweighs the others, and the freelance gig has been stretched out through another to a few more weeks. I really can't wait until I can spend my after hours working on my personal work. Anywho, here's a speedy I did recently during lunch. Oh shoot. It's November, already!

WHAAA
A bit slow on the updates. Woops. I'll be taking on some freelance gigs for the next few weeks, so updates will come when I've got a spare moment or two.

Mech Head
Today at work our AC was turned off for half the day, so I had a really hard time finding the motivation to start a speedpainting during my lunch (I stood next to the refrigerator instead!). So I started this one last in the evening. Really simple..no background. Bleh.

Broken Bridge
Just got back from California last night. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to work on that much artwork. I did sort of finish a piece that I'll probably post sometime this week. But here's a speedy to make up for a week of missed updates! :D

Pause
It's really a shame, since I felt really good about posting this many consecutive updates..but I'm going to have to take a brief break from producing/updating artwork for the blog. Right now I'm trying to complete an image for Sijun's Challege and at the same time I'm going to be flying out to California this Sunday for my friend's wedding and to visit my friends and family. Hopefully I'll get the chance to update during the trip, but don't hold your breath! I'll be returning on September 8th. I'll do my best to have something prepared by then!

Coastal Farm Land
Really late night speedy I did tonight while munching on Subway, drinking Red Bull, and watching the Democratic National Convention on CNN. I'm really not that big on politics, but I really enjoyed hearing Bill Clinton and Joe Biden speaking tonight.

Sketches from Borders
So the concept art team was fortunate enough to receive some time off from work the past few days. It's been a great opportunity for me to work on some stuff I've been wanting to get my hands on. I also got to catch a few dozen z's. I'm a nap machine if I don't have any deadlines to worry about.
I do feel a bit guilty about not going out to draw this past week. Well, I did, but not as many times as I had originally hoped on. But anyways, I got to go sketching with my lead concept artist, Armand Dacuba and our recent new-hire, Mitchell Mohrhauser (with his girlfriend, too). It's always fun sketching with these guys. They're very passionate about their art and we always end up talking about different artists and games that inspire us. There's really nothing better than drawing at a Borders bookstore with your comrades. Okay, that's enough babble-speak from me.
Here's some of the drawings I did today. I'm going to try to take the character from the first scan to completion. She is sort of an extrapolated version of one of the witches from last night's entry. Every so often I like doing something whimsical and cute. :-p

Demonic Geckos, Beware!
This is an illo that I started a month or so ago and decided on "finishing" this evening. I think it could still use another pass, but this should ease my conscious for now. I'll revisit soon enough, since I really did enjoy working on it!
This image has lots of craziness:
-Fat Elmer-Fudd Looking Witch
-Skinny Stretchy Ninja-Witch (I'm going to try furthering this character very soon!)
-Demonic Fire-Breathing Gecko x 2 (the tail of the second one is only visible)

Forward
Felt like doing some characters today. I wanted to try to stick to a consistent/shared color scheme (in this case: yellow and grey). I think the girl was a bit too anime-fied. Haha. T'was fun!

Steam and Sun
A late night speedy. I wanted to try to portray two very atmospheric light sources in one setting. I was originally try to make the exterior lights warm and the interior lighting cool..but I don't mind the opposite. I sort of like how this came out. I just wish I had devoted a bit more time towards to cleaning things up!
Base
A very quick and sloppy sketch from last night/this afternoon. I wanted to be able to capture the blues from a snowy desolate setting. I followed a different path with this one by using Sketchup for a base. It ended up acting more as a distraction then as a tool, as I felt restricted to paint over the geometry. Also, if it wasn't obvious enough, the tower was made using m@'s brush.

The Albino Tree
I think I've been watching a lot (or too much) Planet Earth. Last night I thought of painting an underwater scene for tomorrow (today). Then this morning I thought about putting in a tree underwater. As I was painting the speedy, I thought it'd be more sensible for the tree to actually be a glacier-ish structure. That's my story!

Look
Not sure why I called this one "Look". The rain was added in at the very last minute. This was originally supposed to be more creature, than human. But he has gigantic bunny ears (Viera??) and his helmet might not actually be a helmet! :-O Honestly, I'm not particularly fond of this one. Too static and I was hoping on handling the creature a bit differently. :-/

What Now? + Small VS. Big
Here's my speedy from today. This time I started with a girl and I ended up with a girl. No farm transformations this time!
Here's also my entry from Sijun's little community challenge. The theme was "Small VS. BIg". My "explode" piece was actually a backup piece I made just in case I couldn't finish my actual entry. I hope to come back to this one and clean it up one day. Anyways, check out all the other great entries here (you might have to scroll down a bit!)!

Barnship
Funny enough, I started this speedpaint with the intent of painting a barn. Then I thought to myself "why not add some curves and make it a futuristic barn?". The it somehow became a large futuristic ship hovering over the the countryside. And then tentacle legs were added. @_____@
But I bet there's animals in there! No, really!
On a sidenote, I'm sitting here watching Planet Earth (DVD) on my PS3 and HDTV. My goodness..I need the Blu-ray version, stat! I guess I should go get The BBC High Definition Natural History Collection.

Explode
Here's my speedy from Friday. Unfortunately, I wasn't really able to work on it all that much during my lunch hour, so I decided on completing it today. It's funny how I only introduced the nuclear explosion only after watching Terminator 2: Judgement day on Blu-Ray last night. I've still got a lot of work to do this weekend, so hopefully I'll have an update prepared by Monday morning.

Vagrant Warrior
So in a way today was somewhat of a disappointment. I spent too much time on my speedpainting and not enough/any time on my SIjun Art Contest entry. Worst came comes to worst, I'll just spend a gigantic chunk of my weekend working on that.
But at least I finally got around to moving my desk out to the living room. For those of you who don't know, before this evening, my living room was incredibly empty. I only had my TV, PS3, and..uh...boxes in my living room. So I decided I'd move out my desk (which props up my laptop, monitor, and other computer stuff) and place my TV and PS3 on it. It's a neat set up and now my bedroom is a bit emptier!
